Music & Fashion? Yes, Please!

I am thrilled to bring this new section to the Musician Love blog. Music meets fashion came about through my fun experiences with being a female musician and being fashionable. I love dressing in a pencil skirt & fly pumps with a gorgeous guitar in hand…definitely catches people off guard. (See more fabulous photos on my Instagram: @naetru)

I think it’s important that people know that there is no one look to a musician. As a matter of fact, musicians are creative and expressive so their personal style is bound to be the same.

This part of the blog will highlight my fashion & beauty journey and how I mix it with my music. Just like I express myself every time I play melodies on my guitar, the same happens with my style.

Believe it or not, your style tells a story about you and your brand visually. So, what is your style? If your a musician and you love your style or know someone who does, I would love to hear about it & do a feature! Top Father’s Day Gifts for the Musician

*This post contains affiliate links.

As we are just days away from Father’s Day, many of us are stuck with the same question every year…what should I purchase? It seems like every year, it becomes more of a challenge for me to figure out the perfect Father’s day gift(s). So this year, I decided to narrow things down for myself and focus on a niche my father enjoys…yep, you guessed it, music! My dad grew up in a musical family that played various instruments which also explains how I did the same. My husband is also a fan of music & a musician. So, I searched and compiled a brief list of my top Father’s Day gifts for the musical dad.

Top Father’s Day Gifts for the Musician (you can click each image for more info & pictures):
  • The “I couldn’t Pick a Better Dad” Guitar Pick

I love this play on words! This pick is stainless steel and comes with a Lauhonmin jewelry gift bag. You can choose between a Matte or Smooth finish. It is sure to be the perfect gift for any dads that are guitar players or lovers of guitarists. Now I wouldn’t suggest your dad trying to play with this pick, ha! But, it does make for a lovely keepsake for years to come.

  • Art Music Figure Pen Container Holder

I thought this was pretty neat for the working dad & musician. I love that it’s simple but extremely useful. The holder is made of iron and is very expressive in design. It looks extremely durable and is sure to add a nice touch to any office space. There are several different designs to choose from which includes  the figurine playing several different instruments like guitar, flute and bass.

  • E-Blue Portable Bluetooth Speaker  &  7-Color Breathing Light

I have had previous experience with Bluetooth speakers before and they are amazing so I know this wouldn’t disappoint. This particular speaker feature uses the 4.0 Bluetooth wireless technology & provides up to 4 hours of play. It is compatible with any Bluetooth enabled device so you are not limited at all. It has a USB & AUX port  and 7 different LED lights. I think the thing I love most about this speaker is the built-in microphone that allows the user to answer a call up to 30 ft away! How convenient is that? This gift is definitely a winner!

  • Universal Wooden Docking Station

When I first saw this docking station, I fell in love. The design is so chic & modern but still very masculine. It comes in various colors, with my personal favorite being the classic grey. It works with any cell phone and is made from 1/2” Baltic birch plywood. You can also get the personalized version of this same docking station. It is the perfect & stylish way to keep the dad in your life organized with his essentials…his phone, wallet, keys and watch. Long gone are the days of your dad misplacing these items.

  • Personalized Soundwave Art Print

Ok I saved the best for last because it is my absolutely favorite. This gift is sure to bring on a tear or two because it so sentimental. This custom gift is created by Watermom who was inspired by Ludovico Einaudi’s piano composition “SOLO”. You get to choose that special song and Watermom will turn it into soundwave art. You can get it framed and it comes printed on high-quality paper. This is sure to be your father’s favorite gift for years to come.

I hope you found this list helpful in coming up with some unique gift ideas for that musical father in your life. If you enjoyed this post, please let me know as I love to hear from my readers & feel free to share this post. And to all the amazing fathers out there, Happy Father’s Day to you; we honor you all month long!

The Bloody Win Tour Music Review

WOW! I have to start this review with that reaction because days later I am left speechless from this amazing tour!

Ok, I think I can somewhat put into words this musical experience now… So, on this past weekend, I attended The Bloody Win Tour in Atlanta, GA featuring Tye Tribbett, J.J. Hairston, Tasha Cobbs (not on this city stop) & Jekalyn Carr. Now, I should have already began to prepare myself based on this crazy line-up, but that’s another story. Any who, the concert started off on 10 with the young & talented Jekalyn Carr. She opened with her hit single “Bigger” and was nothing short of power-packed vocals! She even took us back during her set with her first hit single “Greater Is Coming”. Her pure, strong tone pierced through each note and connected immediately with the packed audience. This was my first time seeing her live & I must say I was beyond amazed by her vocal range & ability. She owned the stage from beginning to end and her background vocals & band did not disappoint.

If she wasn’t enough, J.J. Hairston continued the momentum with a high-spirited set which included his single “You Deserve It”. His vocals were flawless and his group SANG & I do mean they SANG ! …(correctly writing “sung” does not do their vocal abilities justice, #sorrynotsorry). There were several mic tosses during the set which included Sunday’s Best own Zebulon Ellis who was phenomenal & Award-winning, gospel artist Byron Cage.

And last but not least, after a brief intermission, the last part of the concert began with a provoking video on today’s many challenges to open Tye Tribbett’s set. I must say, at this point, I was too amped. His set included an intricate, theatrical intro that encompassed incredible musicianship & visuals. Vocal acrobatics? Understatement. Harmonies? Insane. Choreography? Fresh. And let us show some extra loved to the phonemonal band that played for every artist…they were frickin’ AH-mazing! Special shout out to the female guitar player #femalemusiciansrock. She held it all the way down.

So there you have it…the only thing left to say to sum up this tour…WOW! It is a true, musical experience…like, you really need this in your life. To find out when they will be in a city near you and more info, visit And if you aren’t familiar with Tye Tribbett’s latest music, check it out here! The Bloody Win Tour gets plenty of Musician Love!

ML Spotlight: Lester Lands

It always amazes me how many doors can be opened through amazing artistry. I know several great musicians who are living out their dreams because of it. I am pleased to announce and launch my new series the (ML) Musician Love Spotlight. I will highlight, interview and show love to various musicians who are making great strides in the music industry.

We begin the first ML Spotlight with professional guitarist/writer/composer Lester Lands. Lester is from New Orleans, Louisiana. He currently resides in Los Angeles. He has played all over the world–extensively throughout Europe–with other great jazz musicians. His musical influences include the legendary George Benson.

NFL Segment

Lester was recently apart of a musical segment for the NFL that aired on Fox Sports viewed by millions!  In the video, Lester is shown singing lead vocals and playing guitar backed by a trio of great musicians. He brings the blues to the NFL in a major way with shots being flashed of various key players. Lester’s witty lyrics highlights players such as Bryant of the Dallas Cowboys, Newton of the Carolina Panthers & many more. Do yourself a favor and view the footage here. It isn’t everyday that these type of opportunities are granted, which reflects how incredible of a musician and person Lester truly is. Make sure to show this musician love! #musicianlove

Recap- BMI Trailblazers of Gospel Music Honors 2016

Just a week or two ago, I was given the awesome opportunity to collaborate with The Radio Revival. Together, we covered the red carpet for the BMI Trailblazers of Gospel Music Honors which was held at the beautiful Rialto Center for the Arts in Downtown Atlanta, GA.

Now the question is, where do I start? The red carpet was star-studded and buzzing with media, but we managed to collect some great interviews with several major Gospel artists. The list included Eric Dawkins of the dynamic duo Dawkins & Dawkins, Regina Bell, Yolanda Adams, David & Tamela Mann, Brian Courtney Wilson and Deborah Cox. Jonathan McReynolds, Charles Jenkins, Kierra Sheard and Tasha Cobbs also graced the carpet.

The highlight of the evening included appearances from the Trailblazer Honorees Mary Mary who were accompanied by their spouses, mom and sister Goo Goo. And from the ever amazing duo Bebe & Cece Winans who were accompanied by their children.

I must say that having a chance to see these inspiring artists up-close was pretty amazing and their personalities matched their outer beauty. Everyone was full of energy and welcomed our interviews. And if you are wondering, I did attend the show and let me just say you will want to record it when it airs. The performances are absolutely incredible. Kudos to BMI!

Paying Tribute to Earth, Wind & Fire

One phrase: Tribute Thursdays. If you haven’t heard about it, you’re just in time. Charles Chaffer, CEO of Chaffer Productions® continues to impact the music scene with his hit series Tribute Thursdays at Atlanta’s historic Apache Café. The event takes place every 3rd Thursday of each month.

Each show kicks off with amazing live arrangements by the house band and music spins provided by DJ Nephu. This month’s show is a tribute to the legendary group Earth, Wind & Fire.  The artists line up includes Rahbi, Shena Renee, Ricky Mallory, “RicMal”, Daniel “Skyhigh” McClain and Ron James.

Past shows have included tributes to Lauryn Hill, Luther Vandross, Chaka Khan, Teddy Riley, Brandy and R. Kelly. And every show always includes huge surprises. For instance, the tribute show for R. Kelly included celebrity guests such as Q. Parker and Grammy-award artist Lecrae who was impressed with the event. “I mean, it was phenomenal music,” stated Lecrae. “The tribute was amazing. Obviously, the artists and singers that did their thing were phenomenal”. Another previous show was full of giveaways which included Michael Kors gift cards for two lucky attendees.

Every tribute show turns into standing room only and attendees leave with an incredible experience, myself included. First time attendee Stacey J. felt the tribute shows are much needed. “So first of all I am from the old school era, so I appreciate good music. This was absolutely much needed especially if you’re and 80s, 90s baby.” Stacey also shared the following. “The house was packed wall to wall and I was standing up—and I don’t like to stand up, but it’s worth standing. All the entertainers were awesome. You can’t pick out a favorite moment,” stated Stacey J. Tribute Thursdays is shining light and showing love to Atlanta’s musicians and artists.
