Recap- BMI Trailblazers of Gospel Music Honors 2016

Just a week or two ago, I was given the awesome opportunity to collaborate with The Radio Revival. Together, we covered the red carpet for the BMI Trailblazers of Gospel Music Honors which was held at the beautiful Rialto Center for the Arts in Downtown Atlanta, GA.

Now the question is, where do I start? The red carpet was star-studded and buzzing with media, but we managed to collect some great interviews with several major Gospel artists. The list included Eric Dawkins of the dynamic duo Dawkins & Dawkins, Regina Bell, Yolanda Adams, David & Tamela Mann, Brian Courtney Wilson and Deborah Cox. Jonathan McReynolds, Charles Jenkins, Kierra Sheard and Tasha Cobbs also graced the carpet.

The highlight of the evening included appearances from the Trailblazer Honorees Mary Mary who were accompanied by their spouses, mom and sister Goo Goo. And from the ever amazing duo Bebe & Cece Winans who were accompanied by their children.

I must say that having a chance to see these inspiring artists up-close was pretty amazing and their personalities matched their outer beauty. Everyone was full of energy and welcomed our interviews. And if you are wondering, I did attend the show and let me just say you will want to record it when it airs. The performances are absolutely incredible. Kudos to BMI!

Paying Tribute to Earth, Wind & Fire

One phrase: Tribute Thursdays. If you haven’t heard about it, you’re just in time. Charles Chaffer, CEO of Chaffer Productions® continues to impact the music scene with his hit series Tribute Thursdays at Atlanta’s historic Apache Café. The event takes place every 3rd Thursday of each month.

RILET

Each show kicks off with amazing live arrangements by the house band and music spins provided by DJ Nephu. This month’s show is a tribute to the legendary group Earth, Wind & Fire.  The artists line up includes Rahbi, Shena Renee, Ricky Mallory, “RicMal”, Daniel “Skyhigh” McClain and Ron James.

Past shows have included tributes to Lauryn Hill, Luther Vandross, Chaka Khan, Teddy Riley, Brandy and R. Kelly. And every show always includes huge surprises. For instance, the tribute show for R. Kelly included celebrity guests such as Q. Parker and Grammy-award artist Lecrae who was impressed with the event. “I mean, it was phenomenal music,” stated Lecrae. “The tribute was amazing. Obviously, the artists and singers that did their thing were phenomenal”. Another previous show was full of giveaways which included Michael Kors gift cards for two lucky attendees.

Every tribute show turns into standing room only and attendees leave with an incredible experience, myself included. First time attendee Stacey J. felt the tribute shows are much needed. “So first of all I am from the old school era, so I appreciate good music. This was absolutely much needed especially if you’re and 80s, 90s baby.” Stacey also shared the following. “The house was packed wall to wall and I was standing up—and I don’t like to stand up, but it’s worth standing. All the entertainers were awesome. You can’t pick out a favorite moment,” stated Stacey J. Tribute Thursdays is shining light and showing love to Atlanta’s musicians and artists.
